Today’s video is all about finding your personal style! Fashion + style are two of my biggest passions. I’ve been creating fashion videos on YouTube for 5 years, I’ve had a style blog for 4 years, and I film fashion segments for E! Online / E! News as a member of E! Style Collective. Whether your someone who loves fashion or someone who doesn’t know where to even start, I hope my tips can help you be more comfortable in your style!

My favorite thing about personal style is that it let’s you show the world who you want to be. You get to communicate so much about who you are as a person without even saying a word. Here are my top questions to ask yourself when it comes to figuring out your personal style!

HOW TO FIND YOUR PERSONAL STYLE:

1. How do you want to feel?
Really pay attention when you get dressed each day to what pieces make you feel like the best version of yourself. That what you can identify what pieces you like the most + you can start to build a wardrobe around pieces that you love. I realized a little while back that I didn’t hate color or colorful clothing- I just personally felt the best when I was in black. And I always want to feel like the best version of myself!

2. Who do you want to be that day?
Each day you have a chance to decide who you want to be. Keep this in mind when you’re shopping for pieces for work + other events! Ex: Do you have a job interview coming up? Dress like the powerful business woman that you are! That’s the incredible thing about fashion: it allows you to feel the way you want to about yourself. It’s not about what you’re wearing, or who you’re wearing- it’s about how YOU feel when you’re in it. The right outfit or right dress can make you feel ready to take on the world. When you’re confident and comfortable in your own skin, you are unstoppable!

3. Know what works best on your body
It becomes much easier to dress yourself once you know what works best on your figure and how you like your body to look. For example: I KNOW that I like higher waisted pieces or looser fits. I’m not the biggest fan of my shape, so I like to accentuate my legs vs my hips. You’ll see me in a lot of dresses cinched at the waist, or in looser fits like tunics. I don’t like how I look in tighter, more body-con styles. I don’t even bother trying those types on! Find what works for you + stick to it.

4. Have go to outfits
Have some staple looks in your closet that you know you feel great in. For me this is an LBD and a couple more casual outfits. If I’m ever having an ‘off’ day, I know I feel great in these + I can throw them on in a rush.

5. Stop worrying about other people’s opinions
Are you worried about what people will say if you want to wear black every day? Are you changing your style to fit in to match what other people like? It’ll be easier to find your personal style when you start listening to what YOU like + stop listening to other people’s opinions. You are the one in the outfit- wear what makes you feel the best!

I’m still confused about my style
I don’t have much in my closet because I spent my entire days in a school uniform, now that I’m going to college, I need to get myself more clothes.
But I don’t know what my style is. I like comfy outfits like tracksuit pants or leggings and hoodies. I feel comfy in black and I hate anything that hangs off of me, but at the same time I secretly want to look pretty, I’m a huge tomboy. I really like punk and goth, but I also like pretty things like gemstones. My room is bright and has butterflies on the walls that I stuck years ago. I love your style, it’s all in this white-gray-black tones, a lack of colour, and it’s aesthetically pleasing. Colours seem to be full of different meanings, and I’m all about meanings of different things. I have no sense of fashion and I know NOTHING about it! I’m conflicted. Help!

Hi Carly, I just wanted you to know that this really supported me. Due to my beliefs I often feel disconnected from fashion but it doesn’t feel good. I want to be able to dress within my religious dress code but still FEEL good. This really helped give me a guideline, especially after being sick for the last year, I’m looking forward to creating a style unique to me ♡♡♡

My fashion style is wearing like sweats shorts tights jeans anything that covers my legs or at least bellow my née then I would wear a big jacket or put it around my waste and I would always and when I say always I literally mean it I always wear oversized shirts that are like xLarge then I would s8mply tie up my hair
Edit:And you’ll see me wearing Black all the time my jackets shirts pant shorts etc…I’m always wearing black no matter what I also pair all my outfits with vans because I love vans

  48. keirasuniga on January 2, 2019 at 1:47 pm

very helpful! I actually had a question. My mother is very picky and she doesn’t really let me wear what I truly love and feel comfortable in (my go to is yoga pants and a tshirt) and she says that I should wear these really bright blouses and skinny jeans and I don’t know what to do. I want to listen to my mom, but also go with my gut.

  49. Chanel Chanel on January 2, 2019 at 1:49 pm

Of course you wouldn’t feel comfortable in bodycon dresses- your shape is so flat and your figure is not feminine at all.

  50. Burger_Manufaktur ! on January 2, 2019 at 1:50 pm

I love green and black sometimes blue
