Fashion events are held at runways across the nation and around the world. Celebrities, journalists, and fashionistas surround the runway as designers show off their latest collections. The biggest events influence fashion trends across the nation, and, quite possibly, worldwide.
The crème de la crème of the of the fashion world participate in the Fashion Weeks based in New York and Paris. The Fashion Week shows are exclusive – invitation-only. Two fashion weeks are held each year. The winter Fashion Week (held in February) features the designs for fall. The summer Fashion Week is held in September and debuts the anticipated spring collections. This year, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will be held February 7-14 in New York and the Paris Fashion Week will be held February 26-March 6.
Another popular fashion show, SMU Fashion Week is held in Dallas during the last week of March. Founded in 2011, SMU Fashion Week is unique as it’s student organized and hosted by the SMU Fashion Media Program and the SMU Retail Club. The SMU Fashion Week will be held March 25-29.
Of course, there is more than just Fashion Week in Dallas for a fashion connoisseur to enjoy. On January 14, Capelli Salon Uptown Dallas held their BYOB (bring your own blow dryer) party. Led by owner Younes Ounzar, the one-hour seminar taught guests how to achieve a professional blow out at home. Touted as the best hair salon in Dallas, the talented team of stylists gave advice on choosing products, common hair problems, and creating looks.
The Yes! Event was held on December 11 at the Omni Dallas Hotel. Attended by over 600 people, the event benefited the Legacy Preston Hollow, a retirement community in Dallas. Ken Downing, Fashion Director and Brand Ambassador for Neiman Marcus (a luxury retail department store) presented “The Art of Fashion: A View from the Front Row and Beyond” campaign featuring photographer Erik Madigan Heck. Highlights of Spring 2013 fashion were discussed. Expect to see lots of orange, blue, gladiator shoes, prints, and lace.
